The Post family came to New Town (Cambridge) Mass. In September 1634, Stephen Post was given 12 acres of land on the west side of the river. Not long after that he left with several others and his Pastor. He is listed on the Founders Stone of Hartford Conn. As a carpenter, he helped construct the first church in Hartford. He is listed as having land in Hartford as well. He must have had the wanderlust as he next moves to Saybrooke Conn. where the family stayed for more that 100 years. It was an Abraham Post who brought his sons, Roswell and William with their families to Rutland Vermont area. Roswell had fought in the French and Indian wars and had been commissioned a Lieutenant. He served as a Selectman for Rutland Vermont and also in the first Vermont legislature. His first wife died shortly after the start of the Revolutionary war. He remarried and after the war moved to Tinmouth Vermont. He is buried in a little cemetery behind the church in Tinmouth.
Tinmouth is a small community about 30 miles from Rutland. When I visited, I finally found someone who could point out the cemetery. A pretty spot in the woods.
