Faneuil Hall

18 Jun

I awoke this morning on my birthday and read about the call to rename Faneuil  Hall in Boston. Yes the Faneuil family were slave holders just as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and myself.

Let me try to put this into perspective. The culture at that time, although abhorrent to us today was to enslave other people who were thought to be inferior. This occurred with Africans, Native Americans and yes also some whites. Later in our country’s history the orientals were virtually enslaved to build our railroads.

My Louisiana family had the distinction of being enslaved and after freedom enslaving other people.

Lets remember the great people in our past for the goodness that they achieved. Yes they were flawed just like you and me. Remembering our past can hopefully help us rise to a better future.

  1. Well said, Mike. I join you in your kind comments and hope others will open their hearts to a broader understanding of that situation.

Happy Birthday on this special day we share and have a good one. Mine has already been super. Good wishes to a good friend. Linda
